Back 2 School Program
Our Back 2 School initiative is the largest school supply distribution program in the entire state. In 2013, we provided 750,000 school supplies to more than 25,000 underprivileged children. While we distribute most of the supplies in August, the program is a year-round effort requiring thousands of man-hours and volunteers, as well as the gracious support of many sponsors and many more individuals. We do one massive distribution event in August and many smaller distribution events each year. The main school supply distribution day includes a separate event for as many as 500 children who get to participate in a variety of activities and demonstrations designed to excite, educate and inspire them to go back to school.
POWER UP! Boot Camp - A Healthy Minds/Healthy Bodies Program
Participants in this summer’s program attend a day long Boot Camp to take part in a series of physical fitness activities, learn how diet affects their bodies and how to make good food choices. To ensure ongoing learning, children will be involved in three months of post Boot Camp activities, such as using a pedometer to monitor physical activity online and keeping a journal of their eating habits and fitness.
Back 2 School Program – Win School Supplies for an Entire School Contest
Here is a chance to win school supplies for every student of a Chicago school! Anyone can enter our contest. Whether you are a parent, child, faculty member, community leader, or concerned citizen, you can show your support for the school of your choice by entering. On the opening day of school for the fall term, we will show up at the winning school with a truckload of Back 2 School kits, enough to give each student their own box of school supplies. Each year we provide scholarships to deserving Illinois high school seniors so they can attend college.
