A year in the making, our documentary illustrates the plight of students not having school supplies and how it effects them along with their families as well as the burden it places on teachers. While the problem is a serious one, the film also shows how the Back 2 School program is working to fix the problem and how people can get involved and help.
We are excited to have Daniella Guzman and Stefan Holt, co-anchors of NBC5's weekday morning newscast, back to emcee our kickoff luncheon on June 12. The pair were such a hit at last year’s festivities and have been such ardent supporters of our program that it only made sense to have them return.
ICECF has added yet another partner to increase the distribution of school supplies to underprivileged children. This fall, we will be working with Chicago’s Department of Human Services to provide school supplies to every child that is living in one of Chicago’s homeless shelters. Additionally, these children will also receive hygiene/toiletry supplies to help them go back to school prepared and ready to learn.
ICECF expands its reach by partnering with Operation Homefront Illinois to provide school supplies to military families. We will participate in five distribution events in different parts of the state. This new partnership will continue the growth of the Back 2 School program and target children of military families in all branches of the armed forces including the National Guard.
The distribution events will take place during July and August at National Guard Armory facilities in Chicago, Mt, Vernon, Peoria, Springfield and the Quad Cities.
Our Back 2 School program provided almost 20,000 underprivileged children with over half a million school supplies in 2012.

Illinois High School Seniors can apply for our annual college scholarships. 2013 Scholarship winners will be awarded at the June 12 Back 2 School kickoff luncheon. Applications for 2014 will be made available in January.
